01 Jan 1884	Charles Burckhalter visits Chabot Observatory for the first time. (First visitors register.)
May 1885	Anthony Chabot donates money for purchase of transit and time keeping equipment.
14 May 1886	Charles Burckhalter took charge of Observatory.
18 May 1886	Observatory in full operation. (CB and Charles B. Hill (CBH) names written in visitor register.)
1886-1887	1644 visitors
24 Oct 1887	W.H. Lawden, assisted by CB and CBH photographed the moon.
06 Jan 1888	Anthony Chabot passes away.
09 Jan 1888	Day of mourning. Funeral service at 11 A.M. Body of Chabot placed in vault of Hiram Tubbs while his plot is prepared.
19 Jan 1888	Anthony Chabot buried in Mountain View Cemetary.
27 Feb 1888	Chabot Observatory takes over ringing the City Hall bell.
01 Jun 1888	Charles Hill, one of the associate directors, moves to Lick Observatory, Burckhalter left in charge of Chabot Observatory.

Jul 1888	Burckhalter already interested in the very new field of astrophotography.
01 Jan 1889	Total Solar eclipse across northern California. Burckhalter leads an expedition of the Pacific Coast Amateur Photographic Association to Cloverdale.
05 Jan 1889	John Brashear visits Chabot Observatory.
16-18 Apr 1899	Exchanged signals with Davidson Observatory in San Francisco to determine logitude. (Also done in May, 1899.)
1888-1889	1821 visitors (taxes Observatory to the limit).
27 Jul 1889	Astronomical Society of the Pacific meets at Chabot.
30 Aug 1889	The Telescope Trust Fund is listed as containing 10 Contra Costa water bonds worth $10,000 @ 5% per annum, and $750 cash in bank.

12 Feb 1892	Burckhalter elected a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.
28 May 1892	Observatory closed for major renovation during which the 8-inch tower
