Hello All - I am very pleased to announce that at AstroCon
2004's USS Hornet Banquet event Don Blair, the "radio voice of
Apollo 11," will be signing copies of his newly published book
Splashdown--NASA and the Navy. This to be just-released book (during
AstroCon and the Hornet's Splashdown event) details all Navy and Marine
units involved in the 31 manned spacecraft recoveries. The USS Hornet
is heavily featured, including the cover artwork.
The book will sell for around $39.95. Splashdown--NASA
and the Navy will be 9 x 12 (12 inches long--landscape mode), 70 pound
glossy enamel pages, color on every page in some manner, and somewhere
between 176 and 192 pages and 200 to 240 photos. For those who know
about binding, this will be Smyth sewn, rounded and backed, head and
foot bands. Should be simply spectacular!
The reason for this e-mail is to approximately gauge how many attendees
might be interested. This is not to take orders; you'll buy the book
aboard the Hornet right before the Banquet. But we need to give the
Hornet some idea so they'll know how many to hold out for us. Drop me
an e-mail and let me know if you are interested; my address is at the
end of this e-mail. This is not a commitment, but (again) to give the
Hornet a ballpark figure.
Thanks--and we are looking forward to a simply outstanding meeting this
summer! And I look forward to hearing from you about your interest in
Splashdown--NASA and the Navy.
Keep Looking Up,
Mike
